Reduce Image Size for Forms & Portals

Government portals, university applications, and job sites often enforce hard file-size limits — 20 KB for a photo, 100 KB for a signature, 500 KB for a document scan. Miss the limit and the upload silently fails. Here's the fastest way to reduce image size without cropping away important content.

Reduce size the right way

1. If the image is much larger than needed (e.g. 4000 px wide for a 300 px display), resize it first.
2. Convert to JPG for photos or PNG for signatures and line art.
3. Use target-size compression to hit the exact KB limit.

Common upload limits

• Passport-style photo: 10–20 KB, 3.5×4.5 cm, white background.
• Signature scan: 10–50 KB, transparent or white background.
• Educational certificate: 100–500 KB, readable at 100% zoom.
• Aadhaar / national ID scan: 100–200 KB, both sides in one image.

Reduce size without cropping

Cropping loses content. Target-size compression preserves the full frame but reduces quality. If your image is a photograph with mostly smooth areas (sky, skin, walls), you can drop the file size dramatically before quality loss becomes visible. If it has hard text or fine detail, don't push too aggressively — the JPEG artifacts will show up around edges.
